Food inflation at 11.40 pc y/y as at July 31

India’s food price index rose 11.40 percent in the year to July 31, while the fuel price index climbed 12.66 percent, government data released on Thursday showed. Food inflation accelerated from the previous week’s annual rise of 9.53 percent, while fuel inflation eased from the week-ago reading of 14.26 percent.

The primary articles index rose 15.66 percent, compared with the previous week’s reading of 14.36 percent. Wholesale prices, the most closely watched inflation gauge in India, rose 10.55 percent in June from a year earlier, remaining above 10 percent for the fifth straight month.
